25 WAYS TO SHOW YOUR PET CARE

1. Take your dog or cat to your veterinarian for a complete physical examination and vaccinations 1-2 times a year. With senior pets, physical examinations twice a year are recommended to help your pet live a longer, healthier life.
2. Spay or neuter your pet. This is preferably done before the first “heat” because it greatly reduces the risk of mammary cancer.
3. Discuss proper nutrition with your veterinarian.
4. Avoid feeding table scraps.
5. Monitor your dog’s weight. If you can not feel the rib cage, they are overweight.
6. Keep fresh water available at all times; change it daily.
7. Securely attach Rabies Tag and an identification tag to your dog’s collar. Microchipping your pet is also recommended.
8. Walk or jog your dog daily. It will do both of you good.
9. Use a pet dental product daily to prevent tartar formation and gum infections.
10. Never give a dog bones that can be splintered, swallowed or break teeth.
11. Begin obedience training when your dog is young. It is easier to prevent than to correct problems.
12. Set firm rules against jumping on people or furniture.
13. Remember that praise works better than punishment.
14. Use Heartworm prevention monthly in both dogs and cats. Have your dog tested every year for heartworms.
15. Have an Internal Parasite Examination at least once each year.
16. Keep your dog fenced to avoid getting lost or automobile accidents and keep cats indoors.
17. Provide adequate shelter for outside dogs. Use cedar chips for bedding instead of straw, blankets, etc.
18. Select a breed that fits your lifestyle and living space.
19. Play with your pet daily and observe for any signs of illness
20. Bathe your dog in a shampoo balanced for dog skin (do not use human shampoo on animals). Most over-the-counter products are not!
21. Treat your pet with a flea control product.
22. Never leave a pet unattended in a car.
23. Never give chocolate to a dog. Four ounces can cause illness and death!
24. Antifreeze tastes good to most dogs, however it is fatal when ingested. Use caution when draining car radiators.
25. Rinse off the dog’s feet after contacting salt or ice-melting chemicals.
